Makeup Tutorial: Chic Smoky Eye

Friday, July 25, 2014

Hey all! So I posted on my Instagram page (@emilyquak) a few weeks ago this look that I created for the Skin Inc party that I was invited to in Singapore, and so many of you requested a makeup tutorial, so I just had to do it :) Here's the look, and I hope you guys enjoy!

Here are the products I used:

La Mer Moisturising Soft Cream - A fantastic way to prep your skin before makeup. This smooths the skin and nourishes it, so your foundation looks fabulous on top of it, and your skin feels great and supple.

Diorskin Nude Foundation in 020 - I love the texture and coverage of this foundation, and I think it's got great coverage - the kind I would pick when doing makeup for events and photography.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade in Chocolate - my favourite waterproof brow product if I'm going for a strong brow (which is almost always!). It applies beautifully and though it's a cream, it's really easy to create strong, clean lines with this product.

Chanel Illusion d'Ombre in Illusoire - my all-time favourite cream eyeshadows. I love the texture and finish of these eyeshadows, and if the compliments and questions I get about it are any indication, a lot of other people love it too.

Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Intensity One - this is my favourite cream contour product. It is very, very easy to use and blend, so you get a nice noticeable contour that doesn't look too harsh and has a very natural overall look.

Dior 5 Couleur Palette in 156 Femme-Fleur - I love this palette! It has a combination of the most beautiful purples, and these colours work so beautifully well on all skin tones. Dior eyeshadows have always been of astounding quality, and this palette fits right in with all stigmas that come with the Dior name. Love it.

Physicians Formula Shimmer Strips Eyeliner - my number one, HG pencil eyeliner product. It barely smudges at all despite my oily lids and the humid climate, and is the only pencil so far to have stood the test of time, climate and skin condition, successfully.

Laura Mercier Satin Matte Eye Color in Dark Spirit

Shu Uemura CalligraphInk Eyeliner - my favourite liquid eyeliner for its amazing smooth formula, and its incredibly intense black that makes all my smoky eyes look instantly more glam and professional.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Smoky Mascara - I never thought I'd see the day when a Western-brand mascara would give my Asian-brand mascaras a run for their money...until the MUFE Aqua Smoky waterproof mascara. This coats, defines, thickens, and lengthens my lashes in a way that no other Western mascara ever has, and because of its added ability to hold a long-lasting curl, this has shot up the list as my absolute favourite mascara.

Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer in Light - I have fine lines underneath my eyes, and every concealer I try has not been able to mask them (or at least not fall into them). This one, however, I have finally found to be pretty decent at not creasing underneath my eyes! I love this and got it in a colour that's lighter than my skin tone, so I only use it underneath my eyes to conceal and brighten. You only need a tiny bit of it to cover, so it saves you money too :)

Cathy Cat Ultra Cover Cealer in 23 - my favourite all-rounder concealer to date! This is a very very lightweight concealer with intense pigments, so very light layers are all you need to cover a heck of a lot of blemishes!

Make Up For Ever HD Compact Blush in 215 - this HD-friendly blush is a great blush for both beginners and experts alike. It is fantastically easy to blend, and gives you a light, even coverage no matter how bad you are at application. It easily layers to give you more intense colour, and lasts forever on your skin!

Sleek Contour Kit in Medium (available at - I love this because it's so affordable and yet so lovely on the skin.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lip Liner in Vintage Coral (24C) - my new obsession! These lip liners help you get va-va-voom lips and stay on FOREVER! I'm going to be stocking up on a bunch of nudes as well as reds and mulberries - geez these are so good.

Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge - I love the clear end of this product to apply over my lip liner, and because this is another waterproof product, it lasts almost as long and looks incredibly good!

I hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching guys! ♥
