Beauty Product Review: Stila Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15Thursday, October 14, 2010
A little while ago, I wrote a post on how to get your skin fresh and glowing, like celebrities do. One of the products mentioned within that post was Stila's Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer.
This product claims to give you softer, younger-looking skin. It offers sheer coverage, and blends into your skin for a luminous look.
I've been using this for a while now, and I find the SPF in it very convenient. Living in Australia, you can never be too careful about how much sun protection you use. The sun is constantly beating down now that it's Spring, and the UV index soars close to the maximum almost everyday.
As for what it claims to do:
I can't say much about its claim to give younger-looking skin, but it does make it look soft!
This product comes in two shades, but because it is so sheer, it doesn't really matter what shade you pick. I got it in Shade 01, and it suits my skin just fine.
When I first started using it, I didn't see any difference at all! The thing about this product is, its effect isn't immediately obvious. You don't see a dramatic difference. What you do start to notice is how dewy your skin suddenly appears to be, and there is a very subtle glow. Your skin looks slightly better overall, and you kind of stop and look twice in the mirror before you realise that it's the tinted moisturizer doing its work.
It offers very little coverage, so on days when I have acne or dark circles, I have to put on some concealer or a thicker foundation. It's no good for nights out, because you'll need more coverage (and, in my opinion, more sparkle) than what this offers. This product is more suited to those casual afternoons, when you're running errands or out for a jog, or at the market (if I don't stop myself here, I could go on and on).
Compared to Laura Mercier's Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20:
I personally haven't tried Laura Mercier's version, but I have read plenty of reviews comparing these two products. I wanted to get Laura Mercier at first, but decided to get Stila instead, because it's cheaper, and because most of the reviews didn't prefer one over the other when it came to performance.
The only difference reported is that while Stila's Moisturizer gave this dewy glow, Laura Mercier's had more of a shimmer, with small flecks of glitter in it.
